Letter of Credit (LC)

Letters of Credit (LCs) are widely used in international trade transactions to ensure secure payments between buyers and sellers who may not know each other and operate in different countries. An LC provides assurance that the seller will be paid once the agreed conditions have been met.

Types of Letters of Credit

  • At Sight: Payable immediately (typically within 5–10 days) after the seller submits documents meeting the requirements of the Letter of Credit.
  • Usance (Deferred Payment LC / Time LC / Term LC): Payable at a predetermined future date after the conforming documents are presented.
